GTA 6 Pre-Load date time and required storage
GTA 6 Pre-Load Starts November 10: 212GB Required, Prices, and What “Physical” Actually Means Now
Rockstar has finally locked in the pre-load schedule for Grand Theft Auto VI, and the numbers are not small. Digital pre-loading opens on November 10 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the game requires up to 212GB of free storage, and the “physical” version at retail contains a download code—not a disc[reference:0][reference:1].
With launch set for November 19, here is everything you need to clear space, pick an edition, and understand what you are actually buying before GTA 6 arrives[reference:2].
Pre-Load Timing: PS5 Is Local Midnight, Xbox Is Global GMT
Rockstar has split the pre-load rollout by platform, and the Xbox timing is the one that catches people off guard.
- PS5: Pre-load begins at midnight local time on November 10 in your region[reference:3].
- Xbox Series X|S: Pre-load begins globally at 12:00 AM GMT on November 10. That is 4:00 PM PT and 7:00 PM ET on November 9 for players in the United States[reference:4].
If you have already pre-ordered digitally, turn on automatic downloads and keep the console powered on or in Rest Mode (PS5) / Sleep mode (Xbox). Pre-loading does not grant early access—the game becomes playable only when it officially launches on November 19[reference:5].
212GB Is the Number That Matters Most Right Now
Rockstar confirmed the pre-load file will require “up to 212GB depending on your device”, and Sony’s own launch-preparation guidance points to the same figure[reference:6][reference:7]. For context, that is roughly one-third of the usable storage on an 825GB PS5 before you account for the system software and any other installed games[reference:8].
If your console is already full, the pre-load will fail—or worse, it will start and stall. Clear the space before November 10, not on launch week. Delete games you have finished, move captures to external storage if your setup allows it, and check the actual free-space figure in system settings rather than relying on a rough estimate.
Practical rule: Free up 220–230GB if you can. Pre-load files and final install sizes can differ slightly by platform, and update patches at launch may add to the total footprint[reference:9].
Price and Editions: $79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate
Rockstar has priced GTA 6 above the traditional $70 console benchmark but below the $100 standard-edition speculation that circulated for years.
- Standard Edition: $79.99 (approximately ₹7,543). In India, the Standard Edition has been listed at ₹5,999[reference:10][reference:11].
- Ultimate Edition: $99.99, including additional digital content tied to Jason and Lucia’s story—premium vehicles, special weapons, unique outfits, and other in-game items[reference:12].
All pre-orders and purchases made before November 20 also include the Vintage Vice City Pack at no extra cost. Digital pre-orders additionally come with one free month of GTA+, redeemable immediately and usable with GTA V and other titles in the GTA+ Games Library[reference:13].
The “Physical” Version Is a Code in a Box—and the Map Is Separate
This is the part of the rollout that has generated the most confusion, so it is worth stating plainly: the retail version of GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S does not include a game disc. It contains a download code to redeem and install the game[reference:14][reference:15].
Code-in-box versions are expected at retailers from November 12, and Rockstar describes availability as “while supplies last.” The package is a box with a code—nothing more[reference:16][reference:17].
Rockstar is also handling the traditional map differently this time. On November 19, the official site will offer a free printable GTA 6 cover-art poster and a map of Leonida as digital downloads. A double-sided physical poster will follow “shortly after launch” through the Rockstar Store for $0.99 on its own, or free with any purchase from the store. It is not included in the code-in-box package[reference:18].
No PC Version at Launch
GTA 6 launches only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar and Take-Two have confirmed a console-first strategy, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick framing it as serving the core audience first[reference:19]. There is no official PC release date. Analyst estimates have pointed to a possible PC arrival around six to seven months after launch, but that remains unconfirmed[reference:20].
Quick Pre-Launch Checklist
- Clear 212GB+ of free storage before November 10.
- PS5: enable auto-downloads and use Rest Mode; pre-load starts at local midnight on November 10.
- Xbox: enable automatic updates and use Sleep mode; pre-load starts at 12:00 AM GMT on November 10.
- Choose your edition: Standard ($79.99 / ₹5,999) or Ultimate ($99.99). Pre-ordering before November 20 secures the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Physical buyers: expect a code-in-box from November 12—not a disc. The Leonida map is a separate digital or $0.99 physical item.
The wait is nearly over. The only question left is whether your SSD is ready for it.
